Wolf Guard Terminator - WIP 3

Priming and zenithal(ing) complete!

I've now primed the mini and applied a pretty gentle zenithal highlight.  I was a bit nervous about this stage as my airbrush trigger keeps wanting to jam itself and I didn't want to overdo the highlight.

In the end I largely got the subtle gradation I was going for  from top to bottom with just a few unwanted specks here and there but they should blend in when I start painting and hopefully you won't notice them when it's all done.

In fact the gradation is so subtle it may not even show through that well, but it will give me a great guide to where the shadows and highlights go when I'm painting.  That can only be a good thing, I need all the help I can get!

Happily my not-so-great fur sculpting has also integrated into the model quite nicely.

For those that are interested this is the recipe so far:

Primer: Vallejo Panzer Grey surface primer
1st zenithal highlight (zh): Vallejo model air black grey
2nd zh: Vallejo model air medium sea grey
3rd zh: as above with Vallejo model air light grey added
4th zh: as above with Vallejo ivory added

A couple more pics below. I've made the cloak as a sub assembly and I'm painting separately.  For the time being I've mounted it on a piece of sprue while it's being painted up.

  1. I hope you're able to "remove" those specs. I seem to get far too many of them when I do this and it's a pain working them out of the model.

  2. They're not too bad, 3 or 4 thin coats should sort them out (crosses fingers...) if not, well it's only paint and the learning process continues!
